How to make Cold Foam

Making cold foam is easy, and it's a great way to add a creamy, frothy topping to iced coffee, lattes, or even hot drinks. Here’s a simple method to make cold foam at home:

Ingredients:

  • Milk (dairy or non-dairy like oat milk, almond milk, etc.)
  • Sweetener (optional, like simple syrup, honey, or flavored syrups)
  • Vanilla extract (optional, for added flavor)

Equipment:

  • Milk frother or handheld frother (you can also use a jar with a lid or a blender)
  • Cold milk (chilled milk froths best)

Instructions:

  1. Chill the Milk: For best results, start with cold milk. If you're using a milk frother, it’s helpful to chill the milk in the fridge beforehand.

  2. Add Milk: Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of milk into your frothing device (depending on how much foam you want).

  3. Froth the Milk:

    • Using an electric frother: Turn on the frother and move it up and down through the milk to incorporate air, creating foam. After about 20–30 seconds, you should see the foam build up.
    • Using a jar: Add the cold milk to a jar (fill it about halfway), secure the lid tightly, and shake vigorously for about 30–45 seconds until the milk is frothy and has doubled in volume.
    • Using a blender: Blend the milk on high for 20-30 seconds until the foam forms.
  4. Add Flavor (Optional): If you want to sweeten or flavor the foam, add a small amount of sweetener or flavoring (like vanilla extract) to the milk before frothing.

  5. Serve: Once the foam is ready, gently pour it over your iced coffee or drink of choice. You should have a nice, thick layer of foam sitting on top.

Tips:

  • Milk choice: Whole milk creates the richest foam, but non-dairy milk like oat or almond milk can also froth well, with oat milk generally producing the creamiest foam.
  • Cold temperature: Cold milk froths better than warm milk, so make sure your milk is chilled.
